Charles Babbage - Analytical engine

Charles Babbage designed the now called "The analytical engine", it was a design for a mechanical general-purpose computer, this was done 100 years before the first completed general-purpose.

It's description was written in 1837 but since it was a complex machine and at the time nobody could asses its value, the engine was never built.

In 1843, the description of this machine was translated to English and annotaded by Ada Byron, Countess of Lovelace, one of her additions was a way to calculate Bernoulli with the machine, -was she the first computer programmer?, Yes is the general opinion.
